Strategic Planning Review
A six-to-eight-week engagement producing a written strategic plan for owner-managed companies with 8–80 staff.
Purpose
The Strategic Planning Review is Lilac Field’s flagship engagement. It is designed for owner-managed companies that have outgrown informal planning — where growth, succession pressure, or market shifts require a documented direction the whole leadership group can follow.
Who this is for
- Owner-managed manufacturers, trades, professional services firms, and retailers
- Businesses with 8–80 employees where the owner approves major hires and capital expenditure
- Leadership teams that have been debating the same priorities for more than a year without resolution
What you receive
- Discovery interviews — Structured conversations with owners, key managers, and (where relevant) family members involved in succession decisions.
- Capacity and market assessment — Review of your revenue mix, margin structure, staffing constraints, and competitive position using your actual figures, not industry averages alone.
- Written strategic plan — A document covering a three-to-five-year horizon with priority initiatives, named owners for each initiative, resource implications, and explicit trade-offs.
- Leadership presentation — A 90-minute session to walk your team through the plan, answer questions, and agree on the first 90-day actions.
Process and timeline

What is excluded
- Implementation project management beyond the 90-day action list
- Legal structuring for succession (we coordinate with your existing advisers)
- Financial modelling beyond capacity-level analysis
Provider
Led by a senior Lilac Field consultant with prior experience advising Victorian owner-managed firms in manufacturing and professional services. A second consultant joins discovery for engagements above 40 staff.
Preparation required
Before discovery begins, we ask for three years of management accounts, an organisational chart, and a one-page summary of the decisions you have been postponing.
